What is an HVLS Fan?
High-Volume Low-Speed fans move enormous volumes of air using large-diameter blades rotating at low speeds. Unlike traditional fans that create turbulent, localized airflow, HVLS fans distribute air evenly across spaces up to 21,500 sq ft. Temperatures stay stable, humidity stays controlled, and air quality stays high year-round.
- Comfortable working and living conditions in large spaces
- Smooth circulation of fresh air, eliminating stagnant zones
- Significant reduction in heating and cooling costs
- Year-round performance: cooling in summer, destratification in winter
Why HVLS Fans Work
Energy Efficient
Reduce cooling costs by 25–49% and heating costs by 20–30%. GALE Series fans consume 0.5kW to 1.8kW per hour.
Comfort Enhancement
Create a cooling effect of up to 8°C in warm conditions. Keep workers, livestock and occupants comfortable year-round.
Better Air Quality
Continuous airflow eliminates moisture buildup, stale air, dust and pathogens. Critical for animal health and worker safety.
Built-in Safety
Four guywires and an anti-drop device come standard. Safety is built in, not added on.
Year-Round Use
Evaporative cooling in summer. Destratification in winter. Reduces heating load significantly.
HVLS vs Traditional Fans
Why one large, slow-moving fan outperforms a room full of small high-speed fans.
| GALE Series HVLS | Traditional High-Speed Fans | 1 GALE vs 7× 50″ BOX FANS | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air movement | Large volume, low speed | Small volume, high speed | 1 Gale: 12,900 m³/min 7 box fans: 5,950 m³/min |
| Coverage per fan | Up to 21,500 sq ft | A small fraction of the area | 8,600 sq ft from one fan vs ~1,130 sq ft per box fan |
| Operating noise | ≤38 dB | Noticeably louder | 1 Gale: ≤38 dB Box fans: 60 dB each |
| Airflow feel | Even, gentle, draft-free | Localized, turbulent gusts | One wide air column vs 7 overlapping high-speed jets |
| Units for a large space | One fan per bay | Many fans needed | 1 fan vs 7: one install, one point of maintenance |
| Energy use | 0.5–1.8 kW per fan | Higher for the same coverage | 1.0 kW vs 9.1 kW (7 × 1.3 kW): ~89% less power |
Example: Gale G-6.1D (6.1 m) vs seven 130 cm (50″) barn circulation fans, based on the manufacturer's published airflow ratings and placement guidance for the most widely sold barn circulation fan.
