Incentives for HVLS fans on Ontario farms
Ontario farms can get money back on HVLS fans through Save on Energy, the province's electricity savings program. The amount depends on the fan size, and the farm has to apply before buying.
Here's what each fan size gets, what the rules are, and how we help with the application.
$4,820
per fan, 20 to 24 ft
$3,380
per fan, 12 to 18 ft
Through Save on Energy's Retrofit Program.
Save on Energy: amount per fan
Save on Energy's Retrofit Program pays a set amount per HVLS fan in farm buildings.
| Fan size | Incentive per fan | GALE Series models |
|---|---|---|
| 12 to 18 ft | $3,380 | G-3.6, G-4.2, G-5.0, G-5.5 |
| 20 to 24 ft | $4,820 | G-6.1, G-7.3 |
The incentive can't be more than half of the eligible project cost. Eligible costs include the fans, installation by a contractor, and removing old equipment. HST isn't included.
The rules
- Apply before you buy. A purchase order, a signed quote or ordered equipment before you apply can make the project ineligible.
- The fan has to be at least 10 ft across and CSA, UL or cUL approved. Every GALE Series fan is CSA approved.
- The farm applies and receives the payment. You need a Farm Business Registration Number.
- You don't have to replace an old fan one for one. The new fans need to meet the program requirements.
- Pre-approval usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. The project then has to be finished within 2 years.
Building a new barn? Ask us. Whether a new barn qualifies depends on the project, and we'll check before you commit to anything.
How we help
- 1
We check your barn and tell you which fans fit and what incentive they're likely to get.
- 2
We prepare the Save on Energy application with you, as your representative.
- 3
We provide the spec sheets showing CSA approval and fan size, which the program asks for.
- 4
We wait for your pre-approval before taking an order, so you don't lose the incentive.
OSCIA cost-share
The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association runs the Agricultural Stewardship Initiative, which has named HVLS fans as eligible in its energy efficiency categories.
- 35% of eligible costs, up to $35,000 per project, or up to $90,000 for larger projects backed by a detailed energy audit
- Replacement only. The fans have to replace existing equipment and cut energy use. Expansions aren't eligible.
- You need an Environmental Farm Plan, a Farm Business Registration Number and a Premises ID number
- Approval comes first. Costs before the approval date aren't covered.
The 2026 intake closed on July 29, 2026. The next intake hasn't been announced. If you're planning a fan replacement, getting your Environmental Farm Plan in order now means you're ready when it opens.
What doesn't apply to barns
The Enbridge Gas destratification incentive is for warehouse-type buildings heated by ceiling-mounted natural gas forced-air heaters. Naturally ventilated barns don't qualify. For warehouses, see the Enbridge incentive page.

OSCIA allows combining with programs outside its own framework in some cases, as long as the other program allows it and at least 15% of the cost comes from the farm. Check with both programs before you apply. We can help you work it out.
It depends on the project. Ask us before you commit to anything and we'll check.
